Success for Cork Contactless Payment Pilot

Cork Cashes Out has been deemed a success. The project which was developed by the Cork City Centre Forum was designed to promote Cork city a cash-free zone. Recently released figures show that the number of contactless payments in the Cork City area increased by 522% in the last three months compared to the same period last year. This figure is ahead of the rest of the country who saw their contactless payments increase by 364%.

Cork Cashes Out was led by the Cork City Centre Forum, a group of stakeholders including Cork Chamber of Commerce, Cork Business Association, Cork City Council, An Garda Síochána as well as a host of key local business people.

There are a number of countries in Europe leading the way in terms of the percentage of electronic transactions undertaken including Sweden, Belgium, France, Austria, the Netherlands and the UK.
