Online Services at all Cork City Libraries

Project Info

Project Description

Irish Public Libraries including all Cork City Libraries now provide an enhanced range of online services comprising e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines/journals, e-learning courses, online newspapers, and online language courses.

These services provide a much-expanded range of titles, replace earlier products, and are available for members. All you need in order to get started with these services is your library barcode number.

All of these resources can be accessed on a mobile phone using the Cork City Libraries app using your library barcode number.

It is also free to join your local library and you can join by visiting any Cork City library. Branches are located in Bishopstown, Blackpool, Douglas, Grand Parade, Hollyhill, Mayfield, Tory Top

eBooks & eAudiobooks
eBooks and eAudiobook can be enjoyed by currently-registered library members — on a computer or laptop via the website link, or on a mobile device by using the BorrowBox app. Library members can borrow up to five eBooks and five eAudiobooks at any one time. Since February 2016, BorrowBox digital download service has replaced our former OverDrive service.

Digital Magazines
Zinio for Libraries offers full-colour and interactive magazines to download to your computer, laptop, or mobile device. Library members who had registered with Zinio before March 2016 will have to reregister with Zinio to continue accessing eMagazines.

eLearning Courses
‘Universal Class’ online educational courses — for people seeking knowledge for personal or professional reasons.

Universal Class offers patrons a unique online education experience and is available free of charge to all Cork City Library members. The service provides high-quality online courses to help you learn the skills needed to achieve your goals. Courses include lessons, exams, assignments, discussion boards and an instructor to help you master the learning outcomes. When signing up, you will be asked for your library card number.

Online Languages
Mango Languages software teaches real conversations in over 60 languages. Mango Languages is free for all Cork City Library members and can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection. Each lesson combines real-life situations and audio from native speakers, with simple, clear instructions. There are over 60 foreign language courses available plus English courses for speakers of other languages. Mango also offers the opportunity to learn through foreign film with Mango Premiere™.

Online Newspapers
Access current news and historical newspapers from the ProQuest database. Follow the link and log on by entering your library barcode.
