Open Data

90% of the world’s data was created in the last 2 years. By 2020, it is predicted that there will be 50 billion devices connected to the internet – from smart meters to intelligent lighting and it is expected that the number of people using the internet will be outnumbered by the number of devices using it. At first, the open data movement was driven by a commitment to transparency and accountability but this has evolved and public bodies, citizens, entrepreneurs and businesses are using open data to provide residents with useful, practical information such as real time information about when the next bus is due and available parking in Cork.
